Old Friends Make Headlines
It's always fun at this time of year to follow former Brooks players in the college ranks. This was a great week for Brooks lacrosse alums, several of whom made headlines at their colleges:
One day, Six games!
Today was filled with competition. Despite the soggy weather the team continued to play with intensity and spirit. To start off the day we played a full game against Westminster and pulled off a decisive win with a score of 17-11. For our meal we went to the Cheesecake Factory to fuel up for our round robin jamboree. We played five twenty-five minute games (the equivalent of two and a half regulation games) against Loomis Chaffee, Kent Denver, Sacred Heart, Rye Country Day and Deerfield. With so much game time there were multiple opportunities for every player to show their talent. Especially after the round robin it was obvious that the younger players were rising to the level of the returners. We quickly got out of the rain to return for a meeting in the snack shack to end the day.
Loomis and Lost Tree
Day three of our trip started off with a practice and a game against Loomis Chaffee. During our practice we worked on getting our offense and defensive structures up to game speed. We definitely benefited from that earlier preparation. The Loomis Chaffee game got off to a slow start, however we adjusted quickly and pumped each other up to finish the game with a strong win of 11-9. It was great to play against an intense team that we don't play during the regular season. It was impressive to see the younger players assuming leadership roles and understanding our style of play. After a well deserved win we headed off to Lost Tree for another barbecue at the Chace's (grandparents of a player on the team). The team was happy to relax and enjoy a meal by the hot tub.

And Happy St. Patrick's Day!

On Day 2 of our pre-season trip we woke up for our first full day of lacrosse. With our rooms, we went for morning runs to stretch out. For our first breakfast we had some delicious bagels, cereal, and fruit to start the day right. During our 1st practice of the day we introduced our "house" set-up for offense and went over some defensive movement. It was definitely our hottest practice, but everyone played well and stayed focused. Then we were off to Jupiter Island for a cook-out lunch hosted by the Barker's and Mrs. Klein. We spent the rest of the afternoon at the beach, boogie boarding and relaxing. We made it back to the fields for practice #2 of the day and focused on game situations and competitive drills. We ended with some 7 v 7 and things really came together. After such a great practice, we ended with our signature Brooks cheer and loaded up the vans for the hotel. Everyone was pretty much ready for bed, but we spent time in the snack shack to refuel after a long day. Today we have a practice and our first game against Loomis Chaffee. We'll let you know how it goes!
Bye for now,
Church and Liv
Spring Fling: Day 1
Captains Carly Churchill and Liv King want to tell you a little bit about our pre-season trip so far. Everyone arrived yesterday and relaxed by the pool until we had our first meeting and enjoyed some Pizza Hut together. We joined the Babson team (Coached by Coach Bobo's sister) in the pool for aqua jogging and dynamic stretching. Aqua jogging was a lot harder than it sounds! Later that night we had our first practice under the lights, and despite getting used to the humidity it was a great start to the trip and the season. It was a great feeling being out on the field with our returning teammates and a new group of talent. The hustle and hard work was displayed not only by the oldest players but by the youngest freshmen as well. We returned after practice for a meeting in the "snack shack" (Coach Hesse's room) and were off to bed after a satisfying first day of lax in FL. Until next time... peace!
